This Week in Anabel's! (11/13)
Hi all! We hope you are all looking forward to Thanksgiving Break! We will be closed next week so be sure to get into the store this week to stock up on all the essentials you need!
The Semester coming to a Close :(
Anabel’s will be having 2 more weeks of operation. Saturday, 12/2 will be the last day that we are open. This is just a heads up so you can plan ahead especially if you need to stock up on ingredients and snacks to have a well nourished study period and finals week.
Anti Racist Action Fund
We have extended the deadline to apply for the antiracism action fund! See the poster and link below to apply!
The antiracism action fund was designed in 2020 to reduce the financial barrier for groups on campus and in the community who are contributing to addressing issues of racism and/or food injustice. By selling produce generously donated by Dilmun Hill Student Farm and Hydroponics Club at Anabel’s Grocery, nearly $3,000 has been raised in two years. In the past, the grant has supported the Delta Sigma Theta sorority and Basic Needs Coalition in making 50 meal kits for students before Thanksgiving. The grant has also helped discount food orders from Watermargin, a primarily BIPOC and low-income cooperative living house. For more information on the grant, please visit the application link or email anabelscollabedu@gmail.com and cc anabelsgrocery@gmail.com.
Application Guidelines:
On or off-campus organizations engaging in anti-racism work can apply
You may request any sum of money, but we recommend anywhere from $200-500 depending on your needs
Grant recipients must track performance metrics and submit a brief memo outlining the outcomes of the event after it takes place
*Multiple groups can apply together if you are collaborating on an event
New Products
As someone with a gluten allergy, I am very happy to announce that we will be having Schar’s gluten free white bread in store this week! We saw your comments on the in store white board and wanted to help! Schar makes a lovely gluten free bread that we hope will help fill the product gap we have noticed when it comes to gluten free options in store. Another gluten free product we have had in stock for most of the semester but has not been properly highlighted is chickpea pasta! This is a great alternative for those who can’t have gluten but still want to enjoy a nice comforting bowl of pasta.
Continue to add comments to the white board in store so we can help get the products you want to see!
Other offerings this week include:
2 new varieties of pickles!
Fire and Ice Pickles
Heckin’ Hot Pickles
Seedless green grapes
Fresh strawberries
Goshen Kimchi
If you weren’t able to make it to our kimchi tasting event in store last week don’t worry! All is not lost! We are now selling Goshen Kimchi in store!
A fully restocked spice assortment!
All your favorite spices are now back in stock! Be sure to come into the store to get a hold of them to make your winter dishes shine with warm and cozy flavor. A new addition to the spice collection is everything bagel seasoning!
Anabel’s Stickers!
By the register we are now offering stickers for sale! They are super cute and a great way to show your Anabel’s spirit! There are ones that look like fruits and vegetables in our classic Anabel’s design and a sticker of our logo. They go great on water bottles, laptops, and phone cases! They are 50 cents each.
The SpiceLight!
This weeks winner issssss…
Cajun Seasoning!
This deep red spice mix is a blend of black pepper, white pepper, cayenne pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika! Cayenne pepper and paprika give the spice blend its bold orange / red color. It is great as a rub for any type of meat or roasted vegetables. It is a large flavor component in jambalaya, a rice based dish that often features andouille sausage, chicken, or shrimp.
Here is a link to more of the history behind jambalaya and a recipe!
